Active Voice
Active Voice is the verb form or voice in
which the subject of the sentence performs or causes the action expressed
by the verb. Contrast with
passive voice. For
example: Tom changed the flat tire.

1. Find the main verb, subject in front of the main

compliment
How to change from active to passive voice:
1. The subject in front of the main verb that
followed by the object
2. The main verb depends on the tenses
Passive Voice
Passive voice describes a sentence where the
subject is acted upon by the verb. For example: The tire was changed by Tom.
Characteristics
of passive voice:
- A form of an auxiliary verb
(usually be or get)
- The past participle of a transitive verb
- No direct object
- The subject of the verb phrase
is the entity undergoing an action or having its state changed
The
pattern of passive voice is:
1. Passive Voice [Simple Present Tense]
-Pattern = Subject + to be + Verb3
2. Passive Voice [Present Continous Tense]
-Pattern = Subject + to be + being + Verb3
3. Passive Voice [Present Perfect Tense]
-Pattern = Subject + have/has + been +

-Pattern = Subject + to be (was – were) +

5. Passive Voice [Past Continous Tense]

How to recognize passive
voice:
1. The object in front of the main verb
2. Add “to be” before the main verb
3. The main verb must be v3
4. Add the subject in the end of the sentence,
usually used “by”
5. Sometimes a sentence in passive voice does not necessarily sound
"wrong" or wordy. However, it is still best to write in active voice
when possible. In order to recognize that a sentence is in passive voice, watch
out for these keywords:

6. Were
7. Has been
8. Have been
9. Will be
10. Being
How to change from passive to active voice:
1.
Find
the agent in a "by the..." phrase, or consider carefully who or what is
performing the action expressed in the verb.
2.
Make
that agent the subject of the sentence, and change the verb accordingly.
Sometimes you will need to infer the agent from the surrounding sentences which
provide context.
